Our first Grimsdell choir started in 2009 and since then it has grown from strength to strength with overwhelming popularity amongst the pupils. We now have three choirs throughout the school, our Sing Up Choir, our O2 Young Voices Choir and our Toffee Bear Choir!
The Sing Up Choir is open to all Year 1 and Year 2 children who would like to do some extra singing and cover aspects of the music curriculum. This choir has lots of wonderful opportunities to perform at the school musical events including our Harvest and Christingle Services.
The O2 Young Voices Choir is open to all Year 2 children. This choir prepares for an annual concert at the O2 Arena. The Young Voices concert is the largest children’s choir in the world and 8,000 children take part and sing together. We are always the youngest children at this concert and it is always a very memorable occasion for the children and their parents.
The Toffee Bear Choir is a selective choir including children from Year 1 and 2. The children bring their energy and love of singing alive by performing their favourite songs. Our performances are unique. The songs have actions and are led by young singing leaders. They are influenced by a wide range of international music, incorporating songs sung in different languages. The choir performs at various musical events outside school. One of the annual highlights is performing at the Music for Youth Regional Festival, held at the Royal Festival Hall and the Music for Youth National Festival, held at the Birmingham Symphony Hall. We are, once again, the youngest choir to attend these festivals. Our choir has received amazing comments from the music mentors:
“You gave us something really special today – from the opening warm-up song to a brilliant arrangement of Chinese rhymes, we were gripped from start to finish. Your self-confidence and assured performance style ensured an engaging performance. Your choir showed how much they truly love to sing, ‘smiling with their eyes’ and delivering a performance that had everything, BRAVO!”
Because of our passion for singing, we have achieved a national highest ‘Sing Up Platinum Award’ in recognition of all our hard work.
“We have recently gained the Silver Award from Eco Schools – an International Award Programme.”
