Our Early Years classes at Grimsdell provide a secure, friendly, stimulating and nurturing environment for children to develop through exploration and investigation. In addition to well-equipped classrooms, we make full use of our beautiful grounds to enhance children’s understanding of the world. Reception and Nursery also take part in Forest School sessions set in pockets of woodland within the school grounds.
The Nursery class at Grimsdell is for 3 to 4 year olds and offers morning or afternoon sessions. The Nursery Teacher and her two Nursery Nurses provide a flexible and varied programme of learning opportunities, ensuring that activities are engaging and developmentally appropriate. The children work individually as well as in small or large groups, following a topic-based curriculum using the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. Pre-reading and pre-number skills are introduced ready for transition into our three full time Reception classes. The Nursery is an integral part of the school and all the facilities are used to the full.
Our approach in Reception combines the traditional skills of reading, writing and mathematics with the breadth and balance offered by an enhanced EYFS framework. Each Reception class has a full time assistant working with the teacher to support children along their learning journeys. Individual attention is maximised through small class sizes, allowing for pupils to be given all the attention necessary to develop fully, both pastorally and academically. The Reception classrooms are large and airy, each providing space for children to move freely between the various areas, encouraging the development of independence alongside teacher led activities.
“A secure, friendly, stimulating and nurturing environment.”
