Clerk to the Governors (Mill Hill School Foundation)

The Mill Hill School Foundation is seeking to appoint a permanent, experienced Clerk to the Governors from May 2017. We are an independent, charitable foundation of four schools comprising Grimsdell (3-7 years), Belmont (7 to 13 years), Mill Hill School (13 to 18 years) and The Mount Mill Hill International. We are situated in a magnificent 120-acre parkland site on the edge of the North London Green Belt, providing a wonderful environment in which to learn and work. This is an exciting, varied and challenging role in which you will be responsible for the administration of the meetings of the Court of Governors and its sub-committees.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Good listening, oral and literacy skills;
  • Experience of drafting agendas and writing accurate concise minutes;
  • Strong ICT skills;
  • Adept at organising their time and working to deadlines;
  • Experience of organising meetings and collating attendee availability;
  • Experience of record keeping, information retrieval and dissemination of governing body data/documentation, to the governing body and relevant partners;
  • The ability to use the internet to access relevant information;
  • Knowledge of educational legislation, guidance and legal requirements (desirable);
  • Understanding of the respective roles and responsibilities of the Court of Governors, the CEO, and the Executive Team.
  • Knowledge of Equal Opportunities and Data Protection legislation

Hours: 24 hours per week
Salary: 60% of FTE salary £30,000 (£18,000)

Compliance Manager (Mill Hill School Foundation)

Do you possess knowledge of employment law, health and safety legislation, the Data Protection Act and have experience covering commercial compliance issues?

If you are a qualified and experienced Compliance professional looking to utilise your skills, this is a great opportunity to establish yourself in a varied and challenging role in this well-established but forward thinking independent school.

You will advise the Senior Management Team on all aspects of regulatory compliance and legal issues relating to the management of the school. You duties will be wide ranging and include ensuring compliance in all relevant aspects of the law and regulations; reviewing policies whilst promoting awareness and observation of practices and procedures; co-ordinating and managing insurance matters, public liability & employer liability and act as Data Protection Officer.

In addition you will chair the Health and Safety Committee and oversee the management of the Biometric Residence Permits in accordance with Home Office/UKVI guidelines. As the legal professional you will represent the Foundation in court proceedings and advise on all matters relating to legal and governance matters. In addition, you will ensure compliance of all school administrative processes and procedures for ISI inspections.

You will have the ability to interpret legislation and able to think ahead, organise and plan. Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritise work where a high degree of diplomacy, confidentiality and tact is essential. A desire to streamline and modernise working practices would be beneficial.

Non-Resident Day Matron (Mill Hill)

Full time – term time only plus 18 days

Mill Hill School seeks to appoint an experienced Day Matron to work as part of the house team in one of the five boarding houses. This is an exciting position within the school and the successful applicant will play an integral part in the welfare of the boarders, domestic management and the ambience of the house.

The School is very much a community, particularly given the central importance of boarding: we are unusual for a London school to be offering full and weekly boarding, with roughly 180 boarding pupils. We provide a dynamic and varied programme of activities for day and boarding pupils on the weekend, including academic enrichment workshops and games matches.

Mill Hill School is a co-educational Independent day and boarding school for pupils aged 13-18. It is one of 4 schools in The Mill Hill School Foundation which comprises of a Pre-Preparatory, Preparatory, Senior School and an International School.

Matrons may undertake a variety of tasks when on Duty between 07:00 – 17:00 Monday to Friday and 07:00-12:00 on Saturday.

Head of English (Belmont)

The English Department at Belmont comprises, the Head of Department, specialist English teachers in the Upper School (Years 6 to 8), an English coordinator in the Lower School (Years 3 to 5) and a team of primary trained teachers who teach English in ability sets to pupils in Lower School. Regular departmental meetings take place; the department is well resourced and has three specialist rooms.

The department organises a Reading Week, ‘Readathon’ and entry to a number of national English writing and poetry competitions and challenges, where we are successful in gaining awards at all levels.

The Mill Hill Summer School, which is based on the International School’s campus, offers academic and English Plus activity courses of two, four or eight weeks which are aimed at international pupils who wish to gear up for their career in a UK boarding school and also for those who wish to consolidate their academic profile. Our location, just half an hour to the north of central London but set in 120 acres of parkland, is a key selling point.

We are seeking to recruit two Activity Leaders whose skills, experience and personal attributes will equip them for this exciting opportunity. Reporting to the Summer School Director, the Activity Leaders will be tasked with taking responsibility for the preparation and effective delivery of the afternoon and evening sports and social programme, which run for eight weeks through July and August.

With a start date of Saturday 1 July (2 day staff induction), student arrival on Monday 3 July, and an eight week contract (shorter contracts may be available), their work will involve teaching two classes per day of 90 minutes of contact time for five days per week. In addition, they will lead, supervise and accompany students on excursions, ensuring their safety and welfare at all times, for an extra day per week.

It is anticipated that a maximum of forty eight international boys and girls aged 12-17 will attend. Pupils will be accommodated in one of the school’s boarding houses and some staff will also be accommodated on site – the Maths/Science teacher post may include accommodation and therefore pastoral duties, where required.

We are looking for a dynamic and self-motivated individual with the drive to ensure that the second year of Summer School will be successful, building the foundations for future summers.
