About Grimsdell

Grimsdell – Mill Hill and Belmont’s Pre-Preparatory School – is where our pupils begin their school lives and we take pride in playing our part in making those first experiences happy and memorable ones.

The school was opened in September 1995 in Winterstoke House, a former boarding house for Mill Hill School. 86 pupils ranging from Reception to Year 2 were welcomed to Grimsdell. The Nursery class was started in January 1996 with 16 pupils. Grimsdell now houses 188 part time and full time girls and boys aged between 3 and 7.

Being part of the Mill Hill School Foundation, our Pre-Preparatory School boasts on-site facilities rarely found elsewhere; sports pitches, a heated indoor swimming pool, theatre and open parkland are close at hand. Areas of woodland are used for our Forest School programme and our natural surroundings contribute to a strong sense of well-being within our community.

Situated in its own grounds, adjacent to Mill Hill School’s 120 acres of beautiful, landscaped parkland, the Pre-Preparatory School was established to nurture the children’s development and foster a love of learning in a supportive and caring environment.

Positive attitudes to learning, curiosity, a love of the outdoors and the beginnings of life-long friendships are all grown at Grimsdell, making this a vital first step in each child’s educational journey.
